Overview
Absolute Auctions & Realty is known and respected nationally for our knowledge and experience. We work as an organized team to see that our clients receive the personal attention and detail they deserve. Our Appraisal Team performs evaluations on a daily basis and our specialists are trained to give accurate assessments on virtually anything. Some of our more frequent appraisal requests include:
- Antiques
- Collectibles
- Family Heirlooms
- Furnishings
- Artwork
- Vehicles
Appraisals determine the value of personal property for different purposes: estate resolution, insurance assessments, donation or gift valuation, property liquidation, fair market value estimation, and replacement cost. In many of these instances, certified appraisal reports are recommended and/or requested by an attorney.
Our appraisal service includes the following:
- We will set an appointment for an appraiser to meet with you at your convenience.
- The appraisal will be charged at an hourly rate. Great care is taken to complete the appraisal within a reasonable and efficient timeframe.
- At the conclusion of the evaluation, we will compile the appraiser’s notations and catalog the information into our appraisal database.
- The report will be printed, reviewed and certified with the appraiser’s signature. It will include a description and opinion of value for your property.
- You, or a recipient designated by you, will receive a bound copy of your certified written report by mail in a timely manner. We will also include two additional copies to be given to your attorney, your insurance company, your accountant or anyone else of your choosing.
For further information or to schedule an appraisal, call (845) 635-3169 from Monday-Friday between 9am and 4pm or email us anytime.

Appraisal Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I need to hire an appraiser?
An appraiser serves three primary purposes: to identify property, to determine the value of the property and to act as a witness to the property. One or all of these factors will be relevant if your property needs to be replaced, transfers ownership or becomes part of a court settlement.
Are your appraisers certified?
Yes, all of our appraisers are Certified Appraisers Guild of America (CAGA) certified. Robert A. Doyle and Susan A. Doyle are also certified by the International Society of Appraisers (ISA).
How will you determine the value of my property?
Although our appraisers have a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from, we will often employ several additional methods of analysis to help ensure accuracy. For example, we often research values using specialty books or a variety of Internet resources. We also review appraisal records of similar items. If available, we take into consideration any provenance or documentation accompanying the item. In many instances, using a combination of these methods will prove the best way to determine the value of the item.
Is there a difference between the insurance value and the fair market value of my property?
Yes. The insurance value usually represents the cost of replacing the property with items of like kind or quality. The fair market value is the price for which an item will be sold on the open market by a willing seller to a willing buyer. If you are seeking an insurance value appraisal, it is important to keep in mind that the appraisal does not change the value of the property itself; therefore, overinflating its value may result in unnecessarily high insurance premiums. The best insurance appraisal is one with an accurate, detailed description and a realistic assessment of the appropriate amount of insurance coverage needed. For this reason, Absolute Auctions & Realty performs appraisals using the fair market value method.
Can you send my copy of the appraisal directly to my attorney?
Upon your request, we will send a copy of the insurance appraisal to whomever you designate.
Do you also do real estate appraisals?
No, while we are licensed real estate brokers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, we are not certified real estate appraisers.
